Space stocks have been among the market's most exciting and most volatile corners, and Planet Labs (NYSE: PL) is a prime example. The satellite-imaging company hit a record this spring, then gave back most of the gain, closing at $13.71 on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, according to StockAnalysis, even as revenue kept climbing.

At that price, $5,000 buys about 365 shares (364.7 if your broker offers fractional shares). Instead of running generic growth rates through a calculator, we built four hypothetical 10-year scenarios from Planet's own numbers: its price history, Wall Street's targets, the market it says it can serve and what similar companies are worth. None of them is our prediction.

What could $5,000 in Planet Labs be worth in 10 years?

Nobody knows. Using Planet's own data, our four hypothetical scenarios put $5,000 invested at $13.71 anywhere from about $736, if the stock repeats its worst slump, to about $36,800 in a moonshot where Planet wins 5% of the market it targets. The analyst-based case lands near $11,000. These are illustrations, not forecasts.

How the stock has done so far

Planet began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Dec. 8, 2021, after merging with a SPAC (a blank-check company), per Planet's announcement, and closed that day at $11.35, per Yahoo Finance. A $5,000 buy then would be worth about $6,040 today. That is a compound annual growth rate, or CAGR (the steady yearly return that gets you from start to finish), of about 4% a year over almost five years.

That smooth number hides two huge swings. The stock sank to a low of $1.67 on April 30, 2024, roughly 85% below its debut close, then soared to an all-time high of $51.76 on May 28, 2026, according to Stockscan. Today's price is about 74% below that peak. A drop from a high to a later low is called a drawdown.

What Planet does and what Wall Street expects

Planet runs a large fleet of satellites that photograph Earth every day and sells the images and analytics to governments and businesses. In its fiscal second-quarter 2027 report for the quarter ended July 31, revenue rose 58% to a record $116.1 million, the net loss narrowed to $9.4 million and adjusted EBITDA (a profit measure that excludes some costs) was a positive $13.9 million. Planet had about $814.9 million of contracted backlog and $865.4 million in cash and short-term investments, and expects full-year revenue of $430 million to $441 million.

Trailing 12-month revenue was $378.3 million, free cash flow was a positive $24.7 million and the share count rose 11.5% in…
